A little summer fun

Yes, I have been a little absent from the blogging world ~ trying to keep up on the garden, chickens and packing for our move in October.

This is some of what we have been up to ~
Nothing tastes so great as our own strawberries ~ completely red and juicy throughout the whole berry.  I've been busy pinching off all the runners so they pour their juice into their fruit instead.  Had a friend over yesterday and told her that come fall, she can come and dig them up and plant them at her place.
There is a small lake within walking distance of us and since we have become friends with most of the cabin owners there ~ we get access to their docks!

Until next time...
While we are busy with lots of items on our "to do" list, we want to take time to enjoy the summer heat and take time for our friendships.  I'm often heard saying "hurry girls!  let's get our chores done so we can play in the afternoon!"

A little sewing, a little hatching, a little gardening...

These 3 things make for a happy woman...ME!
So here's a little update on the chicks we have right now.  We've had all 3 hens hatch out for us...the last one "Caramel" hatched 10 eggs for us.  We also had a friend hatch out 7 eggs for us and then we brought home 6 more of her chicks.  They are in the house...let the fun begin!

Trudy and Crystal have started to mother hen together... the chicks jump all over them and go back and forth between the two.  They still know who is their Momma, but the Momma's aren't so protective anymore.  The chicks can now have playdates!
My Dad thought this was so funny ~ White Silkie hen with little black bantam chick!
The promise of seasons...spring flowers!

Over estimated the popcorn

These 2 little yellow chicks were from our laying hens brown eggs, BUT they have fuzzy feet.  Conclusion ~ Mr. Bean the Brahma rooster is the chicky daddy.  Can't wait to see what they turn out like!

Little bearded chick named "Tiger" due to it's Bounciness
Girls put all 13 chicks on Daddy.  If you can see, the one furthest up his arm by his elbow has chipmunk fat cheeks!  Definite Americauna, crossed with our Danish Leghorn rooster.
This little black chick is an Australorp I think....it is very sleepy and cuddly...as you can see from the following pictures.  It sleeps in any sort of position and they called it "Hyper Hazel" for fun.

We have 3 of these Australorp and they are so sweet!
Mei was taking pictures of our 3 little Grey Orpingtons...isn't she cute?  If I say SHE maybe SHE will be a SHE???

Enviromentally Friendly Menses, Periods, Menstraul Cycles....

A womanly topic ~ environmentally friendly periods

Oh yes, what a topic.  This is for women, by a woman.  Besides suffering through inconsistent monthy/bimonthly/biweekly periods, I also suffered through sensitivities to commercial pads and tampons.  I thought what did they use before they had Kotex and Always?  In history books they used moss...none of that available...then they just used cloth rags.  WELL, in the 60's they were using the DIVA cup until big business discovered the money to be made in producing "disposables"...so we add monthly to the growing number of hardly degradable diapers in the landfills!  YIKES.  So I got me the DIVA CUP.

www.divacup.com
Two sizes available...one for women who have been pregnant, one for not.  No biggie.  My periods have never been the same.  I'm assuming if you have ever BEEN pregnant, or miscarried, you still get the different size.  It has to do with the shape of the cervix and changes to it during pregnancy.
Took 2 cycles to sorta get the hang of it, but I now take it everywhere and can function nicely in any setting.  Relax!  Check out the links.
I love that I can monitor my reproductive health better as well.  I can tell when my period will be over because of the amounts in the cup when I empty it.  I will be able to "see" if something is different.  My periods are now a little shorter.  THE BEST thing ~ no more messes at night or when I stand up.
This link you can use my coupon code "Jolenecouponcode" to get $10 off when you order $40.  I have never seen the Diva Cup for under $39 in Canada.  I had bought mine in a London Drugs.
